The Beginning

Transition Triathlon opened for business in Leesburg in April 2011. Living and training in Loudoun County, we saw a need for a place where multi-sport athletes could find a great selection of gear, apparel and nutrition under one roof. Through our own and friends’ experiences, we know that picking out triathlon gear involves very personal choices, so we aimed to create a place where customers can see the products for themselves, try them on, feel the fabrics, sample the nutrition. Beyond that, we want TT to be a place where athletes can hang out, meet like-minded people, participate in group rides, runs and other activities.

Meet the Owners

Husband and wife team Steve Makranczy and Alex Korab founded Transition Triathlon drawing from their years of experience participating in endurance sports.

Steve Makranczy

Owner & Bike Manager

Steve has been racing triathlon since 2000. Having competed in races from sprint distance to full iron distance, he has lots of experience that he is more than willing to share. Steve practiced massage professionally for 10 years. Many of his clients were athletes and he has a good working knowledge of the way triathlon training and competition affects the body. He has coached triathletes for races of all distances and is a Serotta certified bike fitter.  Steve plans and teaches the majority of the on site clinics for Transition Triathlon. He is a full time Real Estate agent who also enjoys fishing, baseball, and skiing.

Alex Korab

Owner & Manager

Alex has been running marathons since 1998 and started racing triathlon in 2003. She finished her first Ironman in Lake Placid in 2008, followed by another finish there in 2010. Alex is particularly interested in opening the sport of triathlon to women and has planned Transition Triathlon accordingly. She previously worked as a photography professional, managing teams of photo editors at AOL, USA Today and briefly for Feld Entertainment who owns the Ringling Brother’s Circus. (insert circus joke here). Alex plans and manages the inventory and day to day operations at Transition Triathlon. In her free time Alex enjoys gardening, skiing and playing with her dogs.
